Description:

Built with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Outdoor Recreation grant funds and revenue generated from a ½-cent sales tax, the Community Park opened in May 1999 and offered a new source of recreation and exercise to the island community and the guests that visit throughout the year.

At the head of the entrance road, the Community Swimming Pool invites passersby to "get in the swim". The year-round pool is a Z-shaped facility that is ADA-compliant with a zero-depth entry area and heated during the winter months. There is no shortage of programs as the pool offers water exercise classes, youth and adult swim lessons, synchronized swimming, swim team, lap swim, open swim, and rentals for pool or birthday parties. Other classes have included beginning sailing lessons, kayaking and canoeing skills, swim meets and Lifeguard training.

A pavilion area next to the pool contains vending machines and picnic tables for those who want to relax and enjoy a snack under the canopy. For our sunbathers, lounge chairs and benches surround the pool with plenty of shade for the sun-conscious.

The Community Park has three baseball fields available for all levels of players. The Senior League field is lighted and hosts the Port Aransas High School Baseball team and older Little League teams. The younger Little League teams use the lighted Little League field, and T-Ball players have their own field with a 50-foot base path to complete the triplex.

Public restrooms and a concession stand are centrally located at the ball fields.
The Community Park includes a 1.1-mile walking/jogging trail that meanders through the flats and ends at a birding gazebo overlooking Charlie's Pasture. Visitors can take the shorter .46 mile path that circles the baseball fields and use the 10 exercise stations along its length for a variety of workout routines.
