Description:
The Wetlands Education Center (WEC), a 3.6
acre salt marsh and sand dune complex located on the
campus of the University of Texas Marine Science
Institute (UTMSI), was established to help visitors
learn about the ecological and economic importance
of coastal wetlands. Visitors can learn why salt marshes and
estuaries are among the most ecologically productive
habitats on the planet and how sand dunes protect
barrier islands from storm surges!
